volcanoes and earthquakes-final

Earthquakes are measured on the Richter scale, a thin layer of broken and crushed rocks between two blocks of rock in the earth's crust is known as a fault. When a there is a sudden slip in the faults or when two faults hit, an earthquake is formed.
Volcanoes are measured by mapping, once mapped they can keep track of how fast flows are and GPS devices receive the radio waves from global positioning system satellites to determine the position of the receiver on the Earth's surface. Portable receivers record positions to within 15 feet, which is well suited for lava-flow maps. Volcanoes can also make very beautiful structures (as shown below) the lava cools and leaves amazing different forms in the rock. volcanoes can also cause climate change once the exploed. realsing all the ash in the air can cause the sun to be blocked and the adverage tem to drop the following year, the lava and ash can also desrtoy the plant life effecting the animals and humans living in that area. http://www.woodfortrees.org/graph/uah/from:1978/plot/rss/from:1978  http://photos.si.edu/mexvolc/volcmex_files/paricutin.jpghttp://www.solarnavigator.net/geography/geography_images/volcano_hawaii_kilauea_Puu_oo.jpghttp://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/18/Sumbawa_Topography.png/280px-Sumbawa_Topography.png  earthquakes are destuctive in the fact that they kill hundreds of thousands of people when they happen, they take everything away from evetyone when they hit. they test are ability to come together and help one another, when we really need it, so they kind of both good and bad. Earthquakes could be a new start for people who really need it.

water treatment plant...

a few things i learned yesterday from the plant is that the water is cleaned, several times and has a lot of testing done to it.
i was not aware of the fact that the water was cleaned like it was, it goes through so many steps and process' to be cleaned. it has a lot of time spent on the water in each step. the most intersessting part would be when we saw the water "sluch" was being scrapped off. we got to see something happen rather to him just talking.

i had never recycled before, that was the 1st time, i would like to do it again but its so far from my house and eveything we do. i liked seeing how much people had recycle but there was so much junk liying around that they had missed and not bothered to pick it up, kinda frustrating.

the day after tomorrow

I chose to ask questions instead of making obs, hopfully these can be answered you or you can give me somewhere to find the answers.

1) Can the human population really survive something like this if it was to hit?
2) Would all the animals and plants die or would they be able to re-grow like they do each spring?
3) How could something like this happen?
4) If something like this were to happen, how would the climate be impacted?
5)What would be different if we could survive to see the world after?

answers: surviving another ice age would be tricky but i think we could do it. we have advancements we didn't have back when the 1st one hit.
i think one thing that would be different after the ice age, if you survived, would be the way we view life, how we value things and much different we would do things. i now for a fact, i would tell everyone how much they meant to me, it would be a really nice thing to see them and know their there.

1)Climate change could happen if there is to much fresh water in the oceans or if the ice caps start to melt.
2)No one really knows what will happen if this does occur, we wont really know until it hits
3) an ice age would not really effect a drought, you wouldn't have to worry about them, that for sure.

droughts

this picture is a picture of the drought in aulstalia. they have had the lowest amount of rain fall in the last 3 mon, making it a drouht. If your thinking theat we have not had rain in the lasy 3 mon, that is true but we have other types of waether keeping our climate moist. The drought did not just effect hte people and the land, it also effected the animals. In 1902, the sheep population droped to 54,000,000 and the cattle droped 40%. It was 1925 untill the population of both were back up to normal.
During WW2, aulstalia suffured dry conditoins from 1937-1947. The longest drought ever recored in aulstalia was in alice springs and melbourne because alice spring is a very dry place and is very hot.
and in melbourne because they use to much water.
This map shows the ares where the drought has been great.
the drought effects everythong when they hit. they hit because in humid, or wet, regions, a drought of a few weeks is quickly reflected in a decrease in soil moisture and in declining flow in streams. People who use water from streams in these areas may face water shortages as soon as streamflow begins to decline. In arid, or dry, regions, people rely on ground water and water in reservoirs to supply their needs. They are protected from short-term droughts but may have severe problems during long dry periods because they may have no other water source if wells or reservoirs go dry.
droughts impact the enviroment in because it limits the growth of plants dust bowls are created http://www.drought.unl.edu/kids/impacts/affects.htm

nasa black whole

X-ray vision
1)milky way canter: it is the heart of the galaxy that host our earth and sun. the black hole is seen through engergetic emission
2)Quasar: an active black hole that takes in a mass amount of thingd in space. it out shines the rest of the galaxy

Radio waves
3)Moon: the moon is our friend. under radio waves it glows green yelow and red.
4)Saturn: under radio waves the planet looks red w blue and yellow rings.
5)the Sun: the sun is blue under this type of light. it has some red and green spots on it as well.

Cygnus
The star that is know as Cygnus is about 10,000 lightyears away from the sun. you have to go way out past  plutio and then some. this star is best seen in xray vision. it sucks gas in form surrrounding stras.

Andromeda
Andromeda is a galaxy that is 1.000.000 lightyears away from the sun. in the middle of this spiral spinning  galaxy, is a massive black hole that is 30x stronger then our sun.

 How are black holes born?
A: a black hole is born when an object no longer can withstand the stranght of its own gravity.

What happens when two black holes collide?

A: it is possible for two black holes to collide, and when they do, they cant escape each others gravity. they emegre with each other and become one large black hole.

Do black holes obey the laws of gravity?
A: balck holes obey all laws of physics includding the laws of gravity. the reason they act this way is a direct cause of gravity.
